Neoma solidarity fund

In the exceptional and unprecedented situation that we are currently facing, and following the announcements by the President of the Republic on Thursday evening, NEOMA decided, like all higher education establishments, to close its campuses in Rheims, Rouen and Paris on Monday, 16 March 2020. Since March 23, the courses are exclusively taught at a distance. While NEOMA has been able to meet the challenge of educational continuity, for many students, confinement is synonymous with isolation, precariousness and sometimes psychological distress. Today more than 400 students have indicated that they are having difficulties and the number is constantly increasing.

The NEOMA Alumni Association has joined forces with the School and the Foundation to come to their aid and launched a call for action to all of its graduates, in France and abroad.

EVERY EURO COLLECTED WILL GO TO THE FUND.
The NEOMA Alumni association has already undertaken to donate € 5000

The issue of student insecurity has never been more topical.

A difficult financial situation

To meet their expenses, students mainly rely on a student job, a summer job, an internship or an apprenticeship. Often they have multiple jobs to make ends meet. In this health crisis, many find themselves partially unemployed without any visibility about the future. Confinement then becomes a source of concern. Without any income, how can you finance your studies next year?

Housing is an unavoidable source of expense

While some students were able to return to live with their parents at the start of confinement, few were able to terminate their leases and must continue to pay their rent at the end of the month. Even if some have still managed to save some money by cutting off the water and electricity when leaving, it is far from enough.

Food insecurity

Many students have not managed to return to their families. Taken off guard, they stayed in their accommodation and have had to cope with daily expenses, sometimes with only the CROUS allowance. Parents unfortunately cannot always financially support their children. With the closure of the School's restaurants offering full meals at capped prices, food budgets have exploded. Even though they are careful, for many the idea that the situation is going to continue remains a source of concern.

Isolation is an everyday fact for many students, especially those from abroad.

During confinement, being alone in your apartment, away from your family, can be difficult. The absence of human contact, the feeling of isolation and the uncertainty of the situation affects mental health. Taking care of yourself and continuing to share with others becomes essential. The School has also set up online wellness workshops: QI Gong, sophrology, pilate exercises… all of them sociable times during which you can recharge your batteries.

Testimonials from recipients

“I stayed in Rheims in my apartment during the confinement. It was a rather brutal change because I found myself alone, without any contact with the outside. I already had some financial difficulties before the Covid arrived in France. Usually, I ate each day at the CROUS restaurant, which allowed me to have at least one balanced meal per day for € 3.30. But with the confinement, my food expenses have increased. The help provided by the Solidarity Fund allowed me to buy all the food I needed. It also allowed me to hold out until the next school year when I start my work-study program.
I'd like to thank the donors. Thanks to you, today I can finish my school year focusing only on my exams and not on a bank overdraft. NEOMA's slogan for accepted students is “Join The Family”, and through this solidarity initiative, NEOMA graduates prove that the family is always present even in difficult times. Thank you!"
